Restorative Adirondack Architecture
Originally published Winter 2018
At one point, Saranac Lake, a cozy village in the Adirondacks, had nearly a dozen grand hotels, but none have lasted as long as Hotel Saranac. As other hotels faded away or met spectacular endings, such as the fires that consumed the Berkeley House in 1981 and the Hotel St. REgis 194, Hotel Saranac endured and long remained the center of village life. Now, ninety years after its construction, the hotel is undergoing a renovation that will mark a return to its early splendor.
